A Parke County man died after suffering internal injuries following a three-vehicle crash on U.S. 36 near Rockville on Monday night.
Indiana State Police report Walter Coleman, 72, of rural Rockville was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on U.S. 36 at Old 36.
Police say a pick-up truck driven by Daniel Flaurr, 39, of Montezuma, Ind., was eastbound on U.S. 36 at a high rate of speed when he attempted to pass a four-door automobile on a double-yellow line. That vehicle was driven by Lela Ritch, 68, of Rockville.
Flaurr's truck hit Coleman's truck head-on.
All three vehicles left the south side of the road and went into a ravine.
In addition to the Coleman fatality, a passenger in the car he was driving, Virginia Coleman, 77, was treated at West Central Community Hospital, Clinton, for internal injuries. Ritch was also taken to West Central Community Hospital with complaints of pain.
Flaurr was transported to West Central community Hospital and then transferred to Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, with head and internal injuries.
There were no arrests at the scene; however, police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
The road was closed for about three hours while Indiana State Police reconstructed the accident.
The Rockville Police and the Parke County Sheriff's Department assisted along with several fire/rescue personnel.
