Community children gathered Monday night to receive a gift from the First Apostolic Tabernacle.
Before handing out bookbags, school supplies and shoes, members of the church joined together to entertain the children. There was a sing-along session, Gospel Illusions (magic show) and a puppet show for children to enjoy.
Rev. Hunt and his wife, Helen, along with the congregation are dedicated to making sure that needy children in the community are prepared to start school. Children always seem to do better in school when they are well-prepared for class.
Mayor Tom Arthur, his wife, Penny, and their daughter, Tara, joined attendees in enjoying the events at the church.
Mayor Arthur gave a short speech to the children about staying in school to get your dream job and about his childhood. Mayor Arthur told the group of about 30-35 children that he never liked going back to school, because that meant that winter was coming, but yet "school can make your dreams come true."
Helen Hunt told the children that her best subjects were lunch hour and recess. Many of them agreed.
All of the children were excited and happy that they could receive free school supplies.
Next week at the church is "Bring a Friend Sunday," where all new visitors will be treated to a banana split.
