Health kits are needed for Katrina's victims

Monday, September 12, 2005

The United Methodist Churches of The Terre Haute District (Vigo, Vermillion, Putnam, Parke, Fountain Counties) are collecting Health Kits, blankets, bottled water, nearly new clothing and receiving blankets (freshly laundered, folded and placed in zip-lock bags), and disposable diapers.

Each bag of clothing and receiving blankets need to identify whether the item is for a male or female, the size and the type of item. Clothing/blanket bags and diapers need to be placed in a plastic tote container. The items will be shipped to the designated area that is assigned to Indiana for distribution by our United Methodist Committee on Relief, who is already at work in the areas hit hard by Hurricane Katrina.

The first shipment from the Terre Haute District Churches will be the third week of September; however, collections will be ongoing until needs are met. For this reason, district mission coordinators are making a plea to the communities of our churches to help collect these items. Cash donations are also being accepted, please make checks payable to UMCOR Sager Brown (100% of contributions will go to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina).

A contents list with specific instructions on preparing health kits and drop-off locations are located below and at www.thdistrictumc.org.
