Motorist's call leads to arrest

Wednesday, September 28, 2005

A 911 call from a motorist who witnessed a possible drunk driver on I-70, led to the arrest of an Indianapolis woman by Indiana State Police on Sept. 23.

Indiana State Trooper Patrick Etter was dispatched to the area where the 911 caller reported the silver 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix traveling on I-70, and quickly came upon the vehicle within a few miles.

Etter witnessed Marilyn Marie McCormick, 23, traveling westbound towards Terre Haute in her vehicle which was "literally all over the road." He pulled her over just before the Brazil exit on I-70.

It was apparent to the officer that McCormick was impaired by alcohol, and she admitted upon questioning that she had recently smoked marijauna in the car and earlier in the day.

McCormick was placed under arrest for the following charges:

- Operating while intoxicated

- Operating while intoxicated

- Possession of marijuana/hashish

- Possession of paraphernalia

- Public intoxication

She was taken to the Clay County Jail with a bond set at $7,000 with 10 percent. McCormick bonded out over the weekend, but further details are not available as of press time.
