Local marching bands going to state

Wednesday, October 19, 2005

The Northview Marching Knights and the Clay City High School Imperial Regiment were both winners in marching band finals last Saturday.

Northview Marching Knights Results

Northview placed in the top five last Saturday at the ISSMA Regionals, qualifying them for state finals on Saturday at the RCA Dome. The Knights will take the field for their 21st appearance in state finals to march first at 10 a.m.

Northview High School Principal Jim Church says excitement is definitely in the air around the school. But for him, the excitement is not the competition, it is watching the students put it all together.

"Watching them go from almost nothing at the beginning of program preparations in spring, to seeing them perform at the level they do, and then win, is my personal 'wow' moment," he said.

Tickets for this Saturday's ISSMA State Marching Band Finals will be on sale in the NHS music office from 8am to 11am each morning and at the parking lot each evening from 5:30 to 8:30 during practice.

Prices are $12 for adults, $10 for students and pre-schoolers. Children under 2 not requiring a seat will be admitted free. No cash please, make checks payable to NHS Band Boosters.

The pre-sale tickets are not cheaper. They are being provided as a convenience for people wanting to attend the contest at the dome on Saturday. Northview has only 1,300 tickets available for this years contest. People interested in purchasing tickets are urged to do so quickly because the school ran out of adult tickets last year.

Clay City Imperial Regiment Results

The Clay City Imperial Regiment placed 2nd at ISU Memorial Stadium on Saturday. This qualifies the Regiment for the 6th year in a row for ISSMA Class D Marching Band State Finals to be held this Saturday at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis.

Clay City Jr./Sr. High School Principal Jeff Bell told The Brazil Times it is a big week for the school with all excitement surrounding the band activities. He recently learned that the Imperial Regiment has the longest consecutive winning streak of any band to make it to the ISSMA Class D Marching Band State Finals

"Everyone is very excited," Bell said. "The band is peaking at just the right time and the show continues to get better and better. The students' hard work that began in the spring is finally paying off. They are learning such a great life lesson about working hard."

Class D competition begins at 4:10 p.m., with the Imperial Regiment taking the field at 5:15 p.m. The awards ceremony will be at 6:30 p.m.

The public is invited to attend the band's final run through performance of their show at the high school in the student parking lot on Friday at 7:30 p.m. There will be a bonfire and pep rally to follow at approximately 8 p.m.

Tickets for the state finals are available at the high school office during regular school hours through the end of school on Friday.

The public is urged to purchase tickets early to avoid lines at the RCA Dome. Also, due to construction on the new Colts Stadium in the area of the RCA Dome, people are urged to use parking garage facilities because the parking areas used in the past are no longer available.
