She was helping magician Travis Simms, of Extreme Magic, to make something special appear from an empty box. Students and staff at Van Buren Elementary were treated with a visit by magician Travis Simms, of Extreme Magic, Friday afternoon.

Filled with magic illusions, audience participation and stand-up comedy, Simms mesmerized the students with his show, "The Magic of Reading."

When Simms performed the famous Harry Houdini trick "Metamorphosis," where magician and assistant exchange places after one has been locked into a box in a matter of seconds, the students were stunned to silence, forgetting to applaud.

Principal Gail Williams told The Brazil Times that she was amazed at how the students reacted.

"I don't think, as a group, that they've ever been that quiet before," she said.

The show at the school was sponsored by the Carbon United Methodist Youth Group "Brite Lites and Lil Lites."
