A Vietnam veteran is organizing a motorcycle ride as a fundraising event to benefit the Freedom Center at Indianapolis.
Ron Williams is planning the ride on Nov. 5 to benefit the 50 veterans who live at the center, 373 N. Holmes, Indianapolis.
The center is funded in part by a Housing and Urban Development grant, Williams said. It is in need of donations.
Items needed are coats, hats, scarfs, gloves, boots, food, blankets, sheets, towels, wash cloths, pillows, reading glasses, underwear, socks, disposable razors, deodorant, bleach, soap powders, writing paper, pencils, pens and donations of money. Fellowship is high on the list of needs, Williams said.
"I realize this ride might be a cold one, but imagine how cold these vets will be without a good coat/hat/gloves/boots this winter," Williams wrote in an e-mail.
The ride will begin at the Pilot gas station at I-70 and SR 59, south of Brazil at 10 a.m. Nov. 5. A stop will be made to pick up more riders at 11 a.m. at the Steak & Shake, 3810 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, at the intersection of Washington Street and Holt Road.
