Indiana State Police and Clay County Sheriff's Department deputies question witnesses during the investigation Tuesday into an accident in front of the Pilot Travel Center on S.R. 59 that took the life of a Brazil man.
One man is dead and a semi truck driver has been ticketed for Failure to Yield following a crash on S.R. 59 near I-70.
Around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, a 911 call to Clay County Sheriff's Dispatch Center from a semi truck driver reported an accident in front of the Pilot Travel Center on S.R. 59 north of I-70.
Indiana State Police Trooper Matt Ames investigated the accident and determined that William Soutee, 52, of Wynnewood, Okla., was attempting to make a right turn from the service station onto S.R. 59 and pulled into the path of a northbound 1991 Ford driven by Clinton Anderson.
Anderson, 21, of Brazil, was attempting to pass another vehicle when his vehicle hit the rear axle area on the driver's side of the freight semi. A member of the Clay County Coroner's Office pronounced Anderson dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident.
Soutee was cited at the scene for Failure to Yield.
ISP Trooper John Lambert reconstructed the accident at the scene, which remains under investigation at this time.
Assisting were members of the Clay County Sheriff's Department, Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department, Clay County Search & Rescue, Trans-Care and Red Bird Garage.
