Variety store now open

Monday, November 7, 2005

Kelley Watson and his nephew Butch Biddle hang a sign over the entrance to the J&K Gift Gallery Wednesday afternoon. Watson co-owns the store with John and Kim Quilliam.

Located at 547 E. National Ave. near the courthouse, the J&K Gift Gallery carries a variety of handmade crafts, some of them made by area artisans. The store specializes in gourmet confections from South Bend Chocolate and ornamental "eyecatchers," handmade in Walker, Minn. For the past four years, Watson has traveled the area as a festival vendor, and he saw the store as an opportunity to escape the grind of the festival circuit.

"We're usually gone every weekend from February up until the Covered Bridge Festival," he said. "I'm just glad to be out of that tent."

Open for business since Friday, the J&K Gift Gallery will hold its Grand Opening sometime in the next week or two," Watson said.
