Fire engulfs house on Hadley St.

Monday, November 14, 2005

Around 3:30 p.m., a 911 call reported smoke coming out of the roof edges of a vacant rental home in the area of Hadley Street and County Road 880 North.

Patrolman Clint McQueen and Det. Marty Beasley were the first to arrive on the scene with volunteer firefighters from Jackson, Posey, Van Buren and members of the Brazil City Fire Department close behind. Lack of a fire hydrant in the area required pumper trucks to supply water to fight the fire that had already burnt its way through the roof. The Indiana State Fire Marshal's Office has been contacted to investigate the cause of the fire, which was not available as of press time.
