SHELBYVILLE, Ind. -- The chief executive officer of Brazil Trucking Inc. died in a pickup truck accident Monday.
The Shelbyville News reports Keith K. Roberts, 67, Columbus, died after his truck crashed into a pond east of I-65 near S.R. 252.
Roberts was driving his 2005 GMC pickup north on I-65, said Maj. Mike Bowlby, chief deputy of the Shelby County Sheriff's Department.
Roberts failed to stop at a stop sign at the end of the interstate exit ramp and continued across S.R. 252, through a fence and across a field into the pond. The crash occurred north of mile-marker 80, near Edinburgh.
The sheriff's department received the call at 10:21 a.m., and the Fast Water Rescue Team was deployed. Edinburgh officers were the first on the scene, and deputies arrived a short time later and located a vehicle in the pond.
"Divers removed the unconscious driver who was the single occupant of the vehicle," Bowlby said.
"Medics on the scene attempted to revive the driver but were unable to do so."
Roberts, a former resident of Shelby County, was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Bowlby said the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
Members of the Bar-tholomew County Sheriff's Department, Indiana De-partment of Natural Resources, Flat Rock Fire Department and the Shelby County Dive Team were among the groups assisting the Shelby County Sheriff's Department.
Born March 4, 1938, in Brown County, he was the son of the late Lester and Katherine Beryl (Hendershot) Roberts. He married Jane Ann Stanton on Sept. 18, 1971, and she survives.
Survivors include four sons, John (wife, Cari) Roberts, Mark (wife, Jeannine) Roberts and Keith (wife, Wendy) Roberts, all of Columbus, and Todd (wife, Elizabeth) Roberts of Edinburgh; one daughter, Kimberly Boerema of Columbus; two brothers, Leon (wife, Pat) Roberts and Davin (wife, Twyla) Roberts, both of Columbus; one sister, Jane (husband, George) Mathis of Nashville; and 12 grandchildren, Nicholas, Molly, Kaylee, Cass, Shane, Nathan, Mason, Clay, Chelsea, Ashley, Keith and Chloe.
