Students win VFW essay contests

Top: Northview High School senior Kelsey Haring and freshman Olivia Herron tied for first-place for their entries about "How I Demonstrate My Freedom" in the 2005 VFW Voice of Democracy essay contest. Brazil VFW Post No. 1127 Quartermaster Les Walden, Guidance Counselor Scott McDonald and Post Adjutant John Schraedley presented award plaques and checks to the essay winners on Dec. 14. The entries will now advance to District 7 competition, where, if they win again, they will advance to the state competition, and finally to national competition.
