-Victim's family lives in county
A Vigo County man, with family in Clay County, died in a garage fire at his home just west of the Clay/Vigo county line Thursday afternoon.
Members of the Vigo County Sheriff's Department and the Seelyville, Otter Creek and Nevins volunteer fire departments responded to the home of Ron Ehrlich at 4960 N. Crow Street, Brazil, around 3:24 p.m. Thursday.
Once on the scene, it was uncertain at first if anyone was inside the fully engulfed garage.
Ehrlich's whereabouts could not be confirmed, a WTHI-TV reporter told The Brazil Times. A neighbor on the scene reported to officials that he heard Ehrlich yell from the garage, where he had been working on a vehicle, before help arrived at the fire.
Firefighters located the body of Ron Ehrlich, 63, inside the burnt-out building once the fire was contained.
Vigo County Coroner Dr. Roland Kohr was called to the scene.
Ehrlich's remains were taken to Terre Haute Regional Hospital where an autopsy was scheduled for today.
Foul play is not being considered by officials, but the Indiana State Fire Marshall has been called to determine the cause of the fire which is considered an accident.
The Tribune Star's Web site reported a brother-in-law, Rusty Vansickle, lives in Brazil.
