- Brazil City Police investigating string of car thefts
As the Brazil City Police Department continues to investigate a series of car thefts, Chief Mark Loudermilk has urged Brazil residents to lock parked vehicles and be careful with their car keys.
According to Loudermilk, his department has investigated five separate auto thefts in the past two weeks, most of which involved keys left in an unlocked vehicle.
"If people would be careful with their car keys, it would be a lot harder to steal those cars," he said.
Loudermilk said he suspects the vehicles were stolen for the purpose of "joyriding," a popular activity among area teenagers.
"Most of the time (the cars) have been recovered, so it's probably a "joyriding"-type deal," he said.
The police department investigation has turned up several leads, but no arrests have yet been made in the case.
Anyone with information pertaining to the thefts should contact the police department, 446-2211.
