Akers appointed to assistance program

Monday, January 16, 2006

Clay Superior Court Judge Blaine Akers was one of two judges appointed to the Indiana Supreme Court's Judges and Lawyers Assistance Program. The announcement was made by Chief Justice Randall T. Shepard last week.

Judge Akers, Clay Superior Court, and the Hon. Jonathan J. Robertson, Senior Judge for the Indiana Court of Appeals, were appointed.

Each will serve a three-year term, ending Dec. 31, 2008.

There are 13 members of the program which is designed to help impaired judges and lawyers recover, educate the bench and bar about impairment issues and reduce the potential harm of impairment to the individual, the public, the profession and the legal system.

The program was created by the Indiana Supreme Court and is funded largely through annual registration fees paid by 14,000 attorneys in the state.
