After the winter hiatus, the Orville Redenbacher Popcorn Festival of Clay County committee is meeting regularly.
The festival is set for Sept. 29-30 and Oct. 1.
"Those dates don't quite coincide with the 'first weekend in October' idea," said Festival President
Evelyn Brown on Friday. "But, we chose those dates to synchronize with other festivals in Indiana."
At Thursday's meeting, two of the topics discussed were a scholarship pageant and the first Orville Redenbacher Scholarship to be awarded to a Northview or Clay City high school student.
Dianna Knox is chair of the scholarship pageant.
The festival committee plans to award $1,000 in financial scholarships to the top three contestants. If current plans work out, the queen will receive $500, the first runner-up will receive $300 and the second runner-up will receive $200.
The queen will be eligible to compete in a statewide pageant sponsored by the Indiana State Festivals Association.
The women will have to be attending or have attended Clay Community Schools and must not yet be 22 years old when the statewide pageant is conducted.
The Redenbacher scholarship may be in the amount of $500.
Plans include the return of a carnival and the laser light show.
More information will be released in coming months as plans are completed.
The meetings are presided over by President Evelyn Brown.
The Popcorn Festival committee meets the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. in Brazil City Hall.
All interested people and volunteers are invited to attend.
