The Brazil Rotary Club gives tens of thousands of dollars back to the community each year. Last March 2, the club gave $250 donations to five public safety organizations. Pictured with Rotary President Sam Glover (in back) are Marty Beasley (Brazil Police Reserves), Meri Barker (Posey Township Fire Department), Kelli Muncie-Sturgeon (Clay County Search and Rescue), Jodi Green (Van Buren Fire Department) and Shane Zurcher (Brazil Fire Department). The money was raised through the Rotary Fourth of July Celebration.
Brazil Rotarians have began preparations for the 2006 Fourth of July Celebration at Forest Park.
The annual celebration is the way the club raises funds to support many local non-profit organizations through the year.
President Sally Schutte called the meeting of committee chairs together at 6 p.m. Thursday in Moore Funeral Home.
This year's celebration will begin June 28 and run through July 4. A SIRA sanctioned go-kart event is also planned, as in the past.
Once again, the celebration will feature music and dance performers and a carnival.
The annual fish fry to benefit the Northview and Clay City high school bands is tentatively set for June 29 at the pavilion, also known as the Cow Palace from years gone by.
It is not too early for non-profit organizations to apply for space to sell their wares at the festival. Queries should be made to Frank Phillips, 446-2216, ext. 231.
Non-profits will be charged $100 to set up their tents, trailers and booths between the bandshell and the Rotary Headquarters shelter.
