Mayor donates phones to charity

Tuesday, February 7, 2006

Carrie McKillip (left), executive director of the Council on Domestic Abuse (CODA), and Michelle Price, the program's Clay County coordinator, take stock of the cell phones they recently received from the City of Brazil.

Mayor Tom Arthur chose to donate the phones, formerly used by city utility employees to reach supervisors after-hours, rather than discard or store them.

"There's not much you can do with old cell phones besides just pitch 'em," he said.

CODA's Terre Haute facility offers refuge for victims of domestic abuse. The phones will be issued to clients who live outside the facility for emergency use.
