A Brazil man was taken by medical helicopter to a hospital in Indianapolis Sunday morning after being ejected from his pick-up in an early morning single vehicle accident.
A 911 call shortly before 6 a.m. notified the Clay County Sheriff's Department of an overturned 2000 Dodge RAM in a field just east of the intersection of C.R. 400 W. on C.R. 1350 N.
Upon arrival, Deputy Jason Frazier located the driver, Thomas D. Vanatti, 25, of Brazil, who was thrown 17 feet from the road in the same field.
Clay County Search and Rescue assisted ambulance personnel who transported Vanatti to St. Vincent Clay Hospital before he was airlifted to an unidentified hospital in Indianapolis.
An update on Vanatti's condition was unavailable as of press time.
According to the report filed by Deputy Frazier, it appears the vehicle left the road on the north side at the drive way of 3910 W. C.R. 1350 N, returned to the road then overturned and traveled approximately 315 feet, flipping over at least three times, before coming to rest on the driver's side.
During the investigation, beer bottles were discovered in the vehicle and on the ground at the accident, but an alcohol test was unable to be administered at the scene due to Vanatti's injuries.
Dick Johnson Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
