Brazil City Patrolman Todd Stemm, bus mechanic Jerry Fortune and Clay Community Schools Superintendent William Schad look at the scooter involved in a head-on crash into the Clay Community School Corporation's Transportation Garage storage shed Thursday morning.
A scooter accident reported by several 911 calls Thursday morning sent a Brazil man to Methodist Hospital later that afternoon.
Shortly after 11 a.m., Patrolman Todd Stemm went to an accident scene on N. Depot St. next to the Clay Community School Corp. bus garage where Lloyd Chambers, 52, of Brazil, drove his scooter head-on into the storage building just south of McDonald St.
Not wearing a helmet, Chambers sustained serious head injuries. Ambulance personnel had to stabilize him before he was transported to St. Vincent Clay Hospital.
Around 1 p.m. he was taken to Methodist Hospital by Air-Evac. Further information about his condition was unavailable as of press time.
Officers on the scene have not determined why Chambers drove into the building. The storage shed was not damaged in the accident, which is still under investigation.
