Much of central Indiana, including Clay County, is under a flood watch through Friday morning.
A watch means conditions are favorable for severe weather activity, according to the National Weather Service.
"A strong low pressure system along with a moist atmosphere will result in periods of heavy rain through Thursday night," according to a statement from the National Weather Service. "Four inches of rain or more is possible.
"The heavy rain will be widespread. While flood problems will be worst near streams, other low areas may fill with water also."
The National Weather Service suggests residents listen to the radio and TV or monitor later forecasts for possible flood warnings.
"Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop," the statement said.
A warning means severe weather has been spotted and is imminent for the warning area.
