Popcorn Festival relatives filmed for 'Foodography'

Friday, March 24, 2006

An impromptu Redenbacher family reunion unfolded Friday at the taping of a Food Network segment in the home of Clay County Popcorn Festival organizers Glen and Evelyn Brown. A camera crew filmed an interview with Gail Tuminello Redenbacher with a representative of ConAgra Foods, which currently owns the Redenbacher brand and several other descendants of the "Popcorn King" for the Al Roker Productions show "Foodography," scheduled to air June 20 at 9 p.m. on the Food Network.

Tuminello Redenbacher recently donated a complete compendium of her father's classic television spots to the Popcorn Festival. At the shoot Friday, she caught up with around 15 family members-- even two of Orville's great-grandchildren. In photo to the right, Mackenzie Schmitt and Grant Gourley (from left) peruse part of a collection of memorabilia to be housed at the Clay County Museum.

According to his daughter, Orville-- a Clay County native with a deep appreciation of his roots-- would have enjoyed all the excitement.

"He would have loved this," she said. "He loved to come back here. He never forgot where he really was from."
