Inspection fees increasing, building permits unchanged

Wednesday, March 29, 2006

Brazil residents with designs on home remodeling or new construction will now pay up to 20 percent more on inspection fees.

The March 28 session of the Brazil City Council saw the passage of Ordinance 10-2006, an amendment to Chapter 150 of Title IX of the Brazil Code that will raise the prices of inspection fees in the city for the first time since 1979. Building permit costs will remain stable under the new ordinance.

Inspections

Each inspection carries a $25 fee, but some projects require more inspections than others-- installing new siding warrants one official inspection, but the construction of certain structures can require up to 10. Consult the office of the city plan administrator to determine the required number of inspections for a specific project.

Building permits

Major construction projects-- residences, garages, room additions and various others-- require a city-issued building permit (check with the Brazil City Plan Administrator to determine if a particular project requires a permit).

Permit fees vary according to the cost of the improvement.
