When the dust settled from the 2006 American Cancer Society's Penny Wars in the local elementary schools, Staunton Elementary was this year's winner.
"Oh, how exciting. What a great surprise for our students returning from their break," Principal Sheryl Jordan told The Brazil Times Tuesday. "Our students have always been great giving donations to special things like this."
The 303 students at Staunton did not have one special event for Relay this year, as in the past. Each classroom teacher spoke to their students about the event, then organized their own Relay prize if the class raised the most money in the school.
This year's 14-hour Relay For Life "Ropin' In A Cure" is scheduled to take place at the YMCA. It will begin at 4 p.m. on April 29 and end at 6 a.m. on April 30. If you're interested in participating, please contact Rochelle Mathis at 239-6552.
