Late Thursday afternoon, Indiana State Police Troopers served an arrest warrant on a suspect in connection to a rape investigation by the Clay County Sheriff's Department.
Andrew J. Knight, 19, of Indianapolis, was arrested and preliminarily charged with one count each of Rape and Criminal Deviate Conduct.
In December, Child Protective Services and the Clay County Sheriff's Department were contacted regarding the possible rape of a mentally challenged 16-year old female from Clay County.
When questioning the frightened and agitated girl, she used anatomically correct dolls to explain the graphic details of the incident. She told investigators she was afraid Knight would return and hurt her again.
Investigators determined the teenager has the mental capacity of a small child and was not able to give consent for sexual conduct of any type.
CCSD Detective Jeff Maynard, lead investigator on the case, told The Brazil Times further details would not be made available to protect the identity of the victim and the integrity of the case.
Awaiting arraignment in Clay Superior Court, Knight remains in the Clay County Justice Center on a $25,000 cash bond. If convicted of the two Class B felonies, Knight could face a maximum concurrent sentence of 40 years and $10,000 in fines.
