A three-vehicle accident was the result of a driver not paying attention to what was going on in front of him to make his second accident in three hours on Monday, according to Clay County Sheriff's Deputy Brian Pierce.
Brett Horn, 18, of Clay City, was traveling north on S.R. 59 when he rear-ended a 2004 Toyota car driven by Leonel Lopex, 21, of Indianapolis.
Lopex's car was pushed into a 1994 GMC 1500 truck driven by Andrew Bellamy, 29, of Linton.
Lopex and Bellamy were stopped on S.R. 59 just south of the Brazil 70 Truck Plaza waiting for traffic in front of them to clear when they were struck from behind.
Bellamy, Horn and his passenger, Bradely Stanz II, were transported to St. Vincent Clay Hospital by Trans-Care.
Lopex and his passenger, Jose Monvel, did not sustain injuries that required medical attention.
According to Pierce, he responded to an accident that Horn was involved in just three hours prior. Horn was traveling in the country northeast of Clay City when he missed a hard left turn and ran off the road striking a telephone pole. Horn told Pierce that brake failure was the cause that accident.
Those responding to the S.R. 59 accident were: Clay County Search and Rescue, Posey Township Volunteer Fire Department, Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department, Clay County Sheriff's Department, Indiana State Police and Trans-Care.
