A 1995 Chevy Monte Carlo sets off the road following a crash a half-mile east of the intersection of C.R. 200 E. on N. C.R. 600 N. The driver, Robin Yocom, and a passenger, Brett Yocom, sustained minor injuries.
Animals in the road contributed to a single car accident on N. C.R. 600 N. Wednesday morning, said Indiana State Police Master Trooper Sam Stearley.
Shortly after 8 a.m., Robin Yocom, 36, of rural Brazil was taking her son, Brett, 11, to Jackson Township Elementary School when several small animals appeared in the roadway.
Swerving to avoid the animals, Yocom was unable to correct her 1995 Chevy Monte Carlo at the speed she was traveling and hit a guard rail on the north side of the road. The car left the road and landed in a ditch filled with water.
Members of the Indiana State Police, Clay County Sheriff's Department, Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department and Trans-Care were dispatched to the scene.
Suffering minor injuries, Yocom and her son initially refused medical treatment, but were later taken to St. Vincent Clay Hospital by a family member at the scene.
