Around 12:40 p.m. Friday, a victim of a suspected kidnapping from Columbus, Md., is believed to have placed a call to family members from the Citgo North gas station at the corner of S.R. 59 and Hendrix Street in Brazil.
Humna Naeem, 18, was allegedly abducted at knifepoint by her estranged husband, Yasar Younis, 20, at her high school in Columbia, Md., on Thursday.
A switch notice, alerting police departments of the possible abduction, was sent by the Howard County, Md., Police Department.
A third victim, Aisha Naeem, is also reported missing according to the alert. Police believe she is the couple's daughter.
Authorities know little about the call to Humna Naeem's family or why she was in the Brazil area.
"We don't know if they are traveling through or what," Heaton said.
Police were not notified about the call to the family until an hour after it took place, making the search for the missing people difficult.
"We missed them at the gas station, but members of the Clay County Sheriff's Department, Brazil City Police Department and the Indiana State Police are continuing to search the area for any information they might still be here," Heaton said.
A description of the victims or their abductor was not immediately available, but police are looking for a 1992 dark green Toyota Camry 4-door sedan with a possible Maryland personalized license plate of "NAEEM R."
The public is cautioned to not approach the vehicle. Instead, call the Clay County Sheriff's Department at 446-2535.
