WTWO General Manager Duane Lammers announced Thursday the appointment of Tom McClanahan to news director. The appointment is effective immediately.
McClanahan joined the WTWO news department in 1971, and other than a short stint in cable sales, has remained a fixture at WTWO for nearly 35 years. Tom has anchored WTWO's primary newscasts since 1992, totaling nearly 10,000 newscasts. He will continue to anchor WTWO's "Evening Edition" newscast at 6 p.m., while managing the day-to-day operations of the news department. McClanahan has signed a long-term agreement with the station.
In making the announcement, Lammers remarked, "I am pleased to have someone of Tom's tenure and experience leading our news department. His leadership and news judgment will be a tremendous asset to his co-workers, and his familiarity in working with the rest of my management team will be a huge boost to our entire operation".
McClanahan said, "WTWO has been my occupational home my whole life so my loyalty and dedication is obvious. I am extremely excited about being even a more important part of gathering, assembling and delivering the news in a better way for the most important part of the process -- our viewers. I can only see better things and better days ahead for WTWO News."
With McClanahan's departure from the 11pm news, Lammers also announced that Patrick Fazio will be anchoring WTWO's Late Edition. Fazio joined WTWO in February as the anchor of WFXW's "Prime Edition," and added co-anchor responsibilities of WTWO's "Live at Five" newscasts in April. Fazio recently signed a long-term contract with the station.
The news release did not say what future plans former news director Kathy Dash may have of if she would remain at the station.
