Solving math problems can be tall order

On Thursday, 14 students from the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades at Meridian Elementary School were awarded prizes for their participation in the national Math-A-Thon for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital last April. Kristian Buis, Tavia Taylor, Megan Wetfall, Brandy Doweell, Andrea Schultz, Billie McClain, Emiliee Edington, Destaney Fugate, Jade Young, Jackson Copper, Zach Muncie, Baelee Stearley, Sydney Taylor and J.D. Peebles (not pictured) each took pledges from family and friends for doing 200 math problems. The students raised $961.51 for children's cancer research, earning a t-shirt and a pass to Six Flags theme park for their participation in the event. The group posed with teacher Linda Grove, who organized the event at the school.
