Freecyclers gain items at no cost

Tuesday, May 30, 2006

As spring cleaning inspires rummage sales, people prepare for that weekend of bargain shoppers looking over old furniture, figurines, clothing and toys.

Roadways will be blocked by the vehicles of people trying to get a good deal.

Before you start searching for that special item, check out Clay County's Freecycle Web site, because these same items and more can be obtained for free.

Harmony resident Sandi Warren is the founder and moderator of Clay County's site through Yahoo! Groups.

Warren said "freecycling" is a great way to keep the county clean and landfills free of items that someone else could use.

She started the site after browsing a similar site for Terre Haute. She noticed that a lot of people from Clay County were posting on the Terre Haute site.

Thirty-three members have singed up to join in on the "freecycling" since the Web site's founding on April 10, 2006.

The site is a fast and easy way to recycle items you don't need or find something you are looking for. The basic rule is that everything must be free.

The group is free to join. You can post anything you have gathering dust from collectible items to spare parts or you can request an item you need.

Current items on the list to be given away are back support belts, bicycles and dress shoes. Current items that people are looking for are a television, mirror, slippers, blender and baby supplies.
