Around 9 p.m. Friday, patrolmen of the Brazil City Police Department arrested two people for interfering with their attempts to serve an arrest warrant on a suspect wanted for two counts of attempted robbery with a gun, one count of battery and one count of resisting law enforcement.

When patrolmen asked Lindsay Ray Dilg, 22, and James J. Denny, 35, both of Brazil, if the suspect, Rick A. Cooksey, was inside the residence, they said he wasn't and refused officers' request to search the home.

At the same time, officers outside the home discovered Cooksey trying to jump out a window.

"You don't lie to the police," Police Chief Mark Loudermilk said Monday. "We'll arrest you."

Both Dilg and Denny were arrested on preliminary charges of assisting a criminal and obstruction of justice and booked into the Clay County Justice Center.

During the booking process, officers discovered a small bag of crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine in Dilg's pocket. A preliminary charge of possession of methamphetamine was added to Dilg's booking information.

Dilg and Denny were both given a 10 percent cash bond of $7,000.

If convicted, Dilg could face a maximum consecutive sentence of up to seven years imprisonment with a $25,000 fine, while Denny could face up to 4 years imprisonment and a $15,000 fine.
