The Bowen Ford/Dunlop/Southern Indiana Racing Association Go-kart Race will be Saturday, June 17, and Sunday, June 18, on the race track at Forest Park on S.R. 59 in Brazil. The exciting weekend of racing is hosted by the Brazil Rotary Club and Bob Bowen Ford. Admission and parking are free for all spectators and the public is welcome to attend.

Saturday is practice day at the go-kart track, with action beginning at 10 a.m., then races from 3 to 5 p.m. On Sunday, June 18, the official Bowen Ford/Dunlop/SIRA Go-Kart races are noon to 5 p.m. Drivers and spectators from across the Midwest come to Brazil for race weekend.

John Howes, Go-Kart Race Chairman, encourages the public to attend both race days.

"Fathers, sons and whole families won't want to miss out on this chance to see two fun and excitement filled days of racing. It is a free event and something the Brazil Rotary Club always enjoys bringing to our community, along with local sponsor Bob Bowen Ford. Racing is pretty much synonymous with Indiana. Having this race right in the heart of Brazil brings some of that excitement practically to your own backyard."

Refreshments will also be sold by Clay County Search and Rescue. Official race sponsors are Dunlop/SIRA and Brazil Rotary Club, with Sunday's trophies sponsored by Bob Bowen Ford. SIRA Race Director is Jeff Alsip. For more details visit the SIRA web site at: http://www.sirakarting.net.

Also Saturday, the Christmas in the Park Committee s hosting a fish fry at the Brazil Armory from 4 to 8 p.m. Howes said that is a great arrangement. Race fans can walk just a short distance for a good meal Saturday at the close of racing. Christmas in the Park is also sponsoring four kart classes.

On alternating years the go-kart races have run simultaneously with the celebration or during prior weekends. Often, as with this present year, the racing event occurs pre-celebration on Father's Day weekend. On Wednesday, June 28 the Rotary will kick off the 71st Annual Brazil Rotary Club 4th of July Celebration, which concludes Tuesday, July 4th.

The Rotary Club 4th of July Celebration, All-American Shows midway and nightly entertainment begins Wednesday, June 28, with pay-one-price rides from 5 p.m. to close and The Van-Dells performing at 7 and 9 p.m. Free entertainment is featured in the park each day of the celebration, in addition to the renowned Brazil Concert Band's regularly scheduled performance Sunday, July 2 at 8 p.m.

During race weekend and throughout the celebration, Raffle tickets will be sold one for $5 or 3 for $10 for a chance to win $10,000. One lucky winner's name will be drawn to win the grand prize on Tuesday, July 4th, at 11 p.m., following the fireworks display, in Forest Park's Rotary Celebration headquarters. Raffle ticket sales help fund the Brazil Rotary Club community projects and support non-profit groups and organizations.
