Law enforcement agencies are investigating the death of an infant at Somerset Apartments.
Around 8:13 a.m. Friday, dispatchers received a 911 call from a mother who said her infant son was unresponsive and she needed help.
Clay County Emergency Management Service was dispatched to apartment 17 at Somerset Apartments, 6470 W. U.S. 40, Brazil. The infant, with no visible signs of trauma, was taken to St. Vincent Clay Community Hospital, where the 2-month old male was later pronounced dead.
Authorities are withholding the names of the victim and individuals involved in the case pending notification of relatives.
Clay County Sheriff's Detective Sergeant Jeff Maynard and Indiana State Police Detective Jason Calloway were assigned to investigate the case.
"Law enforcement agencies treat all death investigations as homicides until proven different," Sheriff Mike Heaton said. "We will know more after the autopsy results."
Pathologist Dr. Roland Kohr performed an autopsy on the infant Friday at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. Preliminary results will be provided to Clay County Coroner Rick Swearingen and the Clay County Sheriff's Department early next week.
