Candidates file for November general election

Friday, July 7, 2006

The July 3 filing deadline has passed, and Clay County voters now have a more complete picture of their choices for the fall 2006 general elections.

Though candidates for state and national office can still be named (Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) and State Rep. Andy Thomas (R-Brazil), both unopposed as of Monday's deadline, could face competition), the pool of candidates for county and township offices is set.

Seven new candidates entered the running by way of party caucuses in the weeks leading up to the election (see Thursday's Brazil Times), and only 11 of the 35 county or township offices up for grabs are uncontested.

Candidates who will be on the ballot Nov. 7 are invited to submit a statement, to be published in their own words on the front page of The Brazil Times. The cut-off date for publication will be Oct. 31, one week prior to the election. Candidates are urged to get their statements to the newspaper as soon as possible to ensure publication. Statements will be published in order received.

Candidates' statements can be submitted through the U.S. Postal Service or by e-mail to:

A photo may be submitted with the candidate's statement.
