A Sunday-night car accident nearly knocked out a support beam near the entrance to Chaney's Diner and Deli in Harmony.

The Sunday-night car accident that damaged an area restaurant resulted in minor injuries to the vehicle's driver and passenger, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Department.

According to a department report, a Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Tia Kirchner, 21, of Harmony, swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle and struck a support beam near the entrance of Chaney's Deli and Diner in Harmony. The accident occurred around 11:30 Sunday.

Kirchner and her passenger, Wesley E. Proffitt, 22, also of Harmony, suffered minor injuries and were transported to St. Vincent Clay Hospital for treatment. Damage to Kirchner's vehicle was extensive, the report stated.

The report estimated damage to the restaurant in the range of $5,000 to $10,000.
