Area commuters who travel Rio Grande Road between Brazil and Terre Haute ran into a snag Wednesday as crews from CSX Transportation worked to repair a railroad line near the border of Clay and Vigo counties.
CSX workers are replacing ties and inserting new track along portions of the line, according to a company representative.
"We'll be working here for probably four weeks, but most of the crossings will only be closed for about two days," he said.
The railroad crosses Rio Grande (County Road 1200 N) near its intersection with Gallagher Road just south of Fontanet. The CSX representative said Rio Grande would re-open in time for the Thursday morning commute, but more closings are scheduled-- the intersection of Baldwin Street and Gallagher Road in Fontanet will be closed starting today, and a portion of Eppert Road will remain closed until Monday.
