Top: William Cottrell of Greencastle uses a scroll saw to fashion an elaborate Christmas ornament during at the Mansfield Village Woodworkers and Whittlers Festival held Saturday and Sunday. Cottrell was one of around two dozen woodworkers who participated in the event, displaying their wares, offering demonstrations and competing in a whittling contest. A Saturday-night concert by country star Phil Vassar drew a crowd approaching 5,000 to the tiny Parke County community, according to co-organizer Mary Beth Goff.

Bottom: The festival also featured a number of craft and novelty vendors, including Everett Whitnel of Vienna, Ill., aka "Mr. Fuzzle." Whitnel demonstrated the Fuzzles, a $6 nylon "pet," for flabbergasted children all weekend long-- but he won't tell you how it works unless you're buying.
