Today is your chance to REALLY get a taste of the wild at the wild game cookout. Sportsmen and women from all over the state donate their time and harvest so you can taste some outdoor specialties. The cookout takes place around the Natural Resources Building. Bon appetite!

- Snakes alive! -- 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will be a return of the snakes today. But this time, an interpretive naturalist from Clifty Falls State Park will be walking inside and outside of the Natural Resources Building with a snake or two.

- Edible and medicinal plants -- 1 p.m.

Which is it? Feed a cold and starve a fever? Here's your chance to find out in the backyard amphitheater. Also, find out what's in the forests and fields that you can eat. Join Peggy, an interpretive naturalist from Lincoln State Park, for a talk that features some of Indiana's wild plants that are used for food and medicine.

- Flint knapping -- 2 to 4 p.m.

Watch the fine art of making projectile points in a flint knapping demonstration on the front porch of the Natural Resources Building. Rex and Dave from the Indiana State Museum will be on hand to answer your questions and show you how to create working tools from solid rock.

- Take flight -- live raptor show -- 4:30 p.m.

Soar with the eagles and hoot with the owls! Join naturalist Mark Booth for a look at some live Indiana birds of prey. Meet these fine-feathered friends at the backyard amphitheater.

- Architectural trolley tour -- 6:30 p.m.

Want to take a relaxing trolley tour featuring stories of historic buildings at the Indiana State Fairgrounds? Then, pre-register at the DNR booth inside the Natural Resources Building. The tour begins in front of the Natural Resources Building.

- Kids fishing session -- 4 to 7 p.m.

Free fishing at the Indiana State Fair! Sign up your children, ages 5 to 16, for a chance to fish in our backyard pond. Volunteers are in front of the Natural Resources Building near the new butterfly corner, to assign a fishing time.

While you're at the Natural Resources Building be sure to check out Mother Nature's Mercantile. You can purchase a fishing pole made just for kids, or you can buy fresh ground cornmeal for making biscuits-- just in case the fish aren't biting.

Schedule supplied by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
