Three people sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of U.S. 40 and N. C.R. 425 W. Saturday afternoon.
Clay County Sheriff's Deputy Josh Clarke arrived at the scene shortly after 2:30 p.m. Members of Indiana State Police and Posey Volunteer Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
According to Clarke's accident report, Heather C. Smith, 17, of Brazil, said she did not see Ott's vehicle and was unable to avoid pulling into the path of a vehicle driven by Charles L. Ott, 80, of Terre Haute.
Ott told officers that he was unable to brake in time to avoid hitting Smith's vehicle in the driver's side and rear part of the vehicle.
Wearing her seat belt, Smith suffered abrasions to her shoulder and upper arm area.
Ott said his chest hit the steering wheel, while his wife, Twila, 73, was complaining of chest pain after the accident. The Ott's were transported by Trans-Care to Regional Hospital as a precautionary major.
Clarke estimated the total amount of damages to both vehicles was $2,500 - $5,000.
