Passport Fair coming to Brazil post office

Tuesday, August 22, 2006

The warm days of summer are almost over and if you are thinking of international travel for the holidays, now is a good time to get your passport and that means paperwork.

But, instead of traveling to different locations for forms, photos and mailing, the U.S. Postal Service is offering the first-ever, one-stop Passport Fair.

For one day only, the Brazil post office will stay open after regular hours to accommodate travelers' needs on Saturday, Aug. 26, noon-4 p.m.

Travelers should take:

- Proof of American citizenship -- a certified birth certificate issued by a city, county or state (hospital-issued birth certificates are not acceptable), a previous U.S. passport or a certificate of citizenship or naturalization certificate.

- Proof of identity -- a previous U.S. passport and a certificate of citizenship, a naturalization certificate or a current driver's license with photo ID or government photo ID or military photo ID.

- Passport photo -- will be taken at the post office for a fee.

- Cash or check

A passport application can be downloaded and completed beforehand (do not sign the application) at www.usps.com/passport and applications will be available at the Brazil post office.

Passports are also accepted Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday by appointment.
