Family, friends and fellow firefighters gathered to share bittersweet memories and grieve the loss of Assistant Fire Chief Errett Miller at a memorial in the front yard of the Posey Firehouse Tuesday evening.
The pickup truck that Miller drove to many emergency calls in his 21 years on the department sets draped in black crepe and ribbons with his helmet in the windshield and the blue emergency light on top switched on.
Word of the memorial spread quickly, and the rain didn't keep people away. Many area firemen, struggling to hold back tears, came to say goodbye to a fallen comrade -- paying their respects with a slight touch of their hands on the door handle of Miller's vehicle.
Fire Chief Larry Temple says the public is welcome to drop off condolences for the family at the impromptu memorial, which will be on display until after Miller's funeral services Friday evening. See page 3 for more information.
