The American Red Cross Wabash Valley Chapter is sponsoring the community's Third Annual Family Fun and Safety Fair today in honor of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Red Cross's third annual "September is National Preparedness Month."
The fair will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the parking lot in front of Paitson Brothers Ace Hardware at 2700 Wabash Ave. in Terre Haute.
Attendees can register for a bicycle donated by TVA employees, at Newport, Ind. They can also get free blood pressure checks, donate blood, see the inside of a fire engine and evac helicopter, play games, receive free smoke detectors (while supplies last), get their children fingerprinted and learn other safety measures.
There will be five Be Red Cross Ready Activity Stations for the youth to learn different safety skills in fun and interactive ways. Youth who complete all five stations will receive a certificate for a free hot dog and Pepsi at the food wagon along with a certificate rom the American Red Cross showing they have completed the stations.
Families can enjoy lunch at the Pepsi Wagon, where $1 will buy a hot dog, Pepsi and a bag of chips, and all proceeds will help underwrite the cost of the event.
Other participants in the fair include: Air Evac, the Community Blood Center, Terre Haute Fire Department, Arson Task Force, Indiana State Police, Indiana State University School of Nursing, Vigo County Sheriff's Department, Poison Control, Amateur Radio Operators, Pepsi, Frito-Lay, Krogers and Paitson Brothers Ace Hardware/Just Ask Rentals.
