Luncheon organizer Mary I. Hendrickson passes out special bookmarkers to Clay County Sheriff's Deputies Doug Barr and Jason Frazier during a luncheon in honor of our hometown heroes at the Eastside Christian Church Tuesday afternoon.

The shut-in members of the Eastside Christian Church, 400 E. Church St., shared their birthday and anniversary celebration with emergency response personnel and members of the judicial system Tuesday afternoon.

Mary I. Hendrickson says the events of 911 inspired her to organize the luncheon in honor of the men and women who "protect and serve our community."

"It's the least I can do to show respect and appreciation for all their hard work," Hendrickson said.

Members of the Brazil City Police Department, Clay County Sheriff's Department, the Prosecutor's Office and the Cory Volunteer Fire Department attended the luncheon, answering questions and sharing information about their work and involvement in the community.

Members of local law enforcement agencies, fire departments and the judicial community are invited to join the shut-in members of the church for fellowship and good food four times during the year.

"This is our fourth year for the event," she said.
