Mayor Tom Arthur signed a proclamation recognizing October as International Alpha Delta Kappa Month at City Hall, Wednesday.

The honorary teachers sorority focuses on educational issues and gives support to community service programs including: the House of Hope, the Crisis Pregnancy Center, the Humane Shelter and the Food Pantry. The organization also sponsors educational scholarships and grants.

Alpha Delta Kappa was founded in 1947 by four women educators who wanted to support and recognize the professional efforts of fellow women educators. According to the mission statement, "Alpha Delta Kappa is an international honorary organization of women educators dedicated to educational excellence, altruism and world understanding." The Brazil Xi Chapter was founded in 1964. For more information call 800-247-2311 or visit the Web site: www.alphadeltakappa.org.
