Top of downtown building crumbles

Wednesday, October 4, 2006

It was unknown at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday why a 25-foot section along the top of a building at 567 E. National Ave. collapsed onto the sidewalk in front of the building around 11 a.m. Wednesday. The building is between the Alabama Bar & Grill and the Gooseneck Brew in downtown Brazil.

Due to the unstable nature of the remaining debris on top of the building, local authorities closed a portion of the eastbound lane of U.S. 40 in front of the building for safety reasons.

Authorities are requesting people stay out of the area.

See Thursday's edition of The Brazil Times for more information.
