Close to a 100 prizes were given away at the second annual Fishing Fun Day held at Craig Park on Saturday. The event was sponsored by the Brazil City Parks and Recreation Department and many businesses and individuals donated prizes and food.
What makes the Fishing Fun Day unique?
"It's not competitive - everyone wins a prize," said Ruthann Jeffries, Brazil Parks and Recreation board member.
L.T. Clark was on hand to give fishing lessons and hand out fishing poles to those who did not have them.
Linda Messmer, Brazil Parks and Recreation board member, said, "We're planning on this being an annual event and we will keep it scheduled in September for next year. Attendance is down a bit from last year due to moving the date and the cold weather. We had about 100 kids last year, and this year we have about 80."
At the end of the day, prizes were given out by random drawing. The jackpot included, sleeping bags, sports equipment, restaurant certificates, bowling passes, lawn chairs, fishing poles, remote control cars, dolls, baseball hats, compact disc players, a 13-inch color television and six brand new bicycles.
The morning was cool with temperatures in the 60s, and the fish weren't ready to bite - but there were lots of smiling faces, as kids took home prizes and memories of a fun day shared with family and friends.
