According to county records, there is a three-way race for Sheriff in Clay County for the first time since 1934.
Larry Pierce, former Clay County Sheriff, is running this year on the Independent ticket.
Pierce was elected Sheriff of Clay County for two terms in 1990 and 1994 (terms ran from 1991 thru 1998). Pierce served as Deputy Sheriff from 1999 thru March, 2005. The current Sheriff at that time was appointed to a state office by Gov. Mitch Daniels in March and the Clay County Republican Party bypassed Pierce and appointed Michael Heaton as the Sheriff. Immediately, Heaton fired Pierce, according to a press release from Larry Pierce.
Pierce is seeking the office of Sheriff of Clay County on the Independent Ticket.
The opening of the "PIERCE FOR SHERIFF CAMPAIGN HEADQUARTERS" will take place on Saturday at 10 a.m. Refreshments will be served.
