Clay County Sheriff's Deputy Josh Clarke introduces Brazil Rotarians to Forrest, his new canine partner as Sheriff Mike Heaton looks on.
The club gave the Sheriff's Department $500 Wednesday to help with expenses for the dog.
The dog has sniffed out marijuana and tracked down a suspect after a 3-mile chase, Heaton said. The dog will help the department seize vehicles and other equipment used by drug traffickers, ultimately returning many times over the dog's value to the county.
The deputy would like to see the department purchase a bullet-proof vest for Forrest, Clarke said in response to a question.
Rotary returns money to the community club members earn during the annual 4th of July Celebration at Forest Park.
The club meets Wednesdays at noon at Brazil Family Restaurant on West National Ave.
