The Indiana Business for Responsive Government (IBRG) announced its endorsement of Reid Dallas (R-Elletsville) for election to the Indiana House, District 46.
The IBRG is the political action division of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, the state's leading small business organization.
The Chamber takes a look at all seats that will be opening up and first analyzes the incumbent candidate's voting record on issues important to the Chamber, such as stimulating economic and job growth, reducing property tax burdens and improving education.
To be eligible for endorsement, a candidate must have a 70 percent or higher voting threshold in situations regarding those topics, a requirement which the Chamber said incumbent Vern Tincher did not satisfy.
In all, there are about 80 candidate around the state that have received an endorsement from the Chamber, including Dallas.
"We felt that he was a solid pro-business candidate," Michael Davis, Vice President of Political Affairs for the Chamber, said.
In most cases, the endorsement is strictly that, but in situations where the race could be very close, like District 46, the Chamber will provide assistance that will vary depending on the district. Assistance will include flyers, video communication and messages and issue advocacy, among other things.
The Chamber is confident in Dallas's ability to improve the business climate for his constituents. The District 46 Representative will have voters from Clay, Monroe, Owen and Vigo Counties.
"His leadership, involvement in the local community and enthusiasm provide him with the tools necessary to get the job done," Davis said. "We will do whatever we can to help Reid Dallas win his election."
